Chris Smith's new app, Rex, wants to tell you about cool things

Milwaukee filmmaker Chris Smith is tapping his inner Mark Zuckerberg and his Hollywood tastemaker friends to launch a new app that's about sharing cool stuff.
Called Rex, the free app launches officially Wednesday and allows chums to share — and keep track of — recommendations for books, movies, podcasts, restaurants and cultural doings like plays and museum exhibits.

UWM Music alumna wins the 2nd Clarinet audition with Phoenix Symphony
Clarinetist and UWM Music alumna Katherine Kohler on winning the 2nd Clarinet audition with the prestigious Phoenix Symphony!
Katherine had been performing with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (even subbing while an undergraduate student) and the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra.
UWM Art students design installation in Milwaukee's Ceasar Park
First and second year art students residing in UWM's Art & Design Living Learning Community (LLC) partnered with Milwaukee's Department of Country Parks and River Revitalization Foundation to ideate, strategize, build, and install an area for rest and reflection in Ceasar's Park along the Milwaukee River.
The installations can be seen on the Beerline trail from Riverwest to Milwaukee's Lower East Side.
UWM Dance MFA candidate to perform at the 2016 American Dance Festival
UWM Dance MFA candidate Davalois Fearon pictured in last weekend's New York Times paper in anticipation of her upcoming performance of Trisha Brown's "Glacial Decoy" with the Petronio company at the 2016 American Dance Festival.
Also featured on the same page is a preview of an upcoming premiere by current UWM Dance MFA candidate, Ephrat Sherie. A collaboration with jazz pianist/composer Ehud Asherie, "Riff This, Riff That" will be performed at NYC's 2016 River to River Festival.

Precious Lives Takes To The Stage June 15 at the Pabst Theater

WUWM 89.7 FM - Milwaukee Public Radio and 371 Productions are pleased to announce Precious Lives: The Live Show. On Wednesday, June 15 at the Pabst Theater, Milwaukeeans heard each week on Precious Lives will take the stage and share stories of how gun violence has impacted their lives.
“The goal is to continue the amazing work in Precious Lives with a live performance that allows the storytellers and audience to connect and examine the gun violence in our community,” says Michelle Lopez-Rios, Precious Lives: The Live Show director.
Lopez-Rios works professionally in theater and at UWM, but she also guides people who are living invisible, painful lives in sharing their experiences with others.

Street art festival coming to a Milwaukee alley

Street art has taken on a new life in the digital age. Once the domain of guerrilla artists working in the cover of night for the delight of unsuspecting local audiences, it is now a global phenomenon in which artists become internet famous fast.
A new annual street art festival — the Black Cat Alley — intends to bring that global community of artists, many of whom remain anonymous, to a Milwaukee alley each fall.
